A useful fit for

A candidate when an XL side-entry design, attached screen, standard fly and supplied tree-hugger straps are desired and the maker-listed 7-foot/300-pound thresholds fit the plan.

The main tradeoff

The 42-inch standard webbing may not suit every permitted tree or anchor spacing, and Hennessy's current chart and exact product page disagree on fabric construction and packed weight. Insulation is a separate planning item.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

What body size and load figures apply to the Deluxe Zip XL?

Hennessy lists bottom-fabric dimensions of 130 by 59 inches, a 7-foot height limit and a 300-pound hammock limit. The measurements do not promise individual comfort.

Does the standard M36 package have integrated bug mesh?

Yes. The exact page specifies attached 30D No-See-Um mesh; this is separate from the included stock rainfly and any under-body insulation.

Are tree-hugger straps supplied with the standard Zip XL?

The standard page lists a 42-inch-by-2-inch webbing pair and says tree-hugger straps are included. Hennessy also sells longer options through a separate customized configuration, so verify the exact package.

The Explorer Deluxe Zip XL is Hennessy's roomier one-layer, side-entry Explorer option with a 300-pound manufacturer-listed hammock limit. Its standard listing combines an attached insect mesh, stock rainfly, support ropes, compression sack and tree-hugger straps. This is a different package from the Deluxe Classic entry model, the Woodland edition with its larger fly and longer straps, and the separate body-plus-webbing customization listing. The assessment here is limited to the standard-rainfly Zip XL offer, SKU M36.

How the Deluxe package differs

Hennessy lists a #10 YKK side zipper with two double sliders, a single-layer bottom, 30-denier no-see-um mesh, ten-foot suspending ropes and a 2-inch-by-42-inch tree-hugger strap pair. The main hammock page says the stock rainfly and webbing straps are included in this retail configuration. The published bottom-fabric dimensions are 130 by 59 inches; 130 inches is about 10 feet 10 inches when converted to feet for the site's threshold finder. These are fabric and package facts, not a claim that this body is comfortable for every person who is under the stated 7-foot height limit.

Its hammock-body limit is listed as 300 pounds. Hennessy separately describes the suspending ropes as 1,800-pound-test polyester-core ropes, while the tree-hugger webbing is a separate component. These numbers describe different parts; the rope test figure is not permission to load the hammock to that amount, and neither figure rates an unverified tree, stand, connector or whole arrangement.

Read the specifications as two conflicting records

The exact model page currently describes the hammock fabric as 70-denier polyurethane-coated polyester ripstop and lists a packed weight of 3 pounds 5 ounces before the included 4-ounce webbing. The comparison chart instead calls the Explorer Deluxe XL fabric 140-denier nylon and lists 3 pounds 3 ounces. Both sources name the same 300-pound limit and XL size, but the material and weight claims are not equivalent. This review retains the exact product-page values as the model page's claims and records the chart difference rather than presenting one as independently confirmed. If fabric construction, package weight or long-term use is central to the decision, ask the manufacturer which current specification applies to SKU M36.

The standard package page lists a packed size of 5 by 8 by 12 inches, but it does not make that the bulk of a full trip system: sleep insulation, cooking gear and any larger fly upgrade have to be considered separately. Hennessy's chart lists standard fly fabric and package weight at a summary level; the exact page gives the included fly's shape and dimensions. Check the selected variant and the box list instead of assuming every photograph shows the same fly.

Entry and insect protection

The side zip is the practical dividing line from the separately listed Explorer Deluxe Classic XL. Hennessy's FAQ describes Classic as a bottom-entry design with a hook-and-loop closure and Zip as a side-entry zipper. The page does not support treating one as a simple color option for the other: entry route is a functional difference, with real consequences for how a person gets in and out and where the opening sits. The exact Deluxe Zip uses the #10 two-slider zipper; that is a construction description, not a durability test.

The attached 30D no-see-um mesh means the standard package meets an integrated-screen requirement when that screen is in its designed position. It does not provide overhead weather coverage or warmth beneath the body. The stock rainfly is included in the standard product page, while a compatible insulating pad appears among separate accessories. If a nighttime setup is the aim, inventory body, fly, insulation, suspension and anchors one by one.

Fit, included webbing and what to verify

Hennessy lists this XL for users up to 7 feet tall and the hammock to 300 pounds. Its 59-inch listed lower-fabric width clears the site's 59-inch threshold, but it should not be interpreted as usable sleeping width or a comfort recommendation. The 42-inch Tree Hugger straps are intended to protect the rope and tree bark, according to the maker; their supplied length may not suit every trunk or tree spacing. Hennessy offers longer webbing, but those options live on a separate customization listing, so confirm whether the offer is the standard M36 package or a different length/configuration.

For a lighter XL listing, the Explorer Ultralite Zip has a lower 250-pound body limit, but its current page and Hennessy's chart disagree on material, webbing width and packed weight. For a two-layer bottom that retains a pad, compare the Jungle Explorer and 4Season designs. No option should be chosen from capacity or a title alone: inspect the anchor site, follow the exact hammock and suspension instructions, and verify the live package.

This is an assessment of primary manufacturer records, not a hands-on test. The material and packed-weight disagreement between Hennessy's model page and comparison chart remains unresolved; the body limit, attachment path and contents should be verified for the exact M36 offer before buying. The page's advertised capacity does not rate the complete hang.
