A useful fit for

A candidate when the XL side-entry body, attached screen and manufacturer-described Double Bubble pad interface are useful, with the larger fly and longer webbing in the selected Woodland package.

The main tradeoff

The Double Bubble Pad XL is listed separately, and the product page's customary and metric packed-weight values materially disagree. The 300-pound hammock limit does not rate the whole hang.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

What dimensions and body limit does the M138 Jungle Explorer Woodland list?

Hennessy lists 130 by 59 inches of lower fabric, a seven-foot user-height limit and a 300-pound hammock-body limit. The lower-layer construction does not change those into a whole-system rating or comfort promise.

Does the M138 have an integrated bug net?

Yes. Its exact page describes attached 30D No-See-Um mesh and a side-entry Zip. That screen is separate in function from both the Hex fly and insulation.

Are tree straps supplied with the M138 package?

The exact Woodland page says this model includes longer 72-inch webbing; it also lists the pad separately. Check the live offer and actual tree fit.

The Jungle Explorer Zip XL - Woodland (SKU M138) combines an XL side-entry hammock, attached mesh, a double-layer lower body, a large Woodland Hex fly and longer webbing. It is not the same setup as the single-bottom Explorer Deluxe Woodland: the Jungle Explorer's second lower fabric layer has attachment points intended to hold a compatible Double Bubble pad. This review assesses the listed M138 package and its separate insulation choice from manufacturer evidence only.

The second layer is a pad interface, not included warmth

Hennessy describes the hammock bottom as two tightly woven layers of 40D nylon taffeta and says its Radiant Heat Reflecting Double Bubble Pad attaches to O-rings between them, staying on the correct diagonal. The page names that pad as a separate purchase. The two-layer construction is therefore a real functional difference from the single-layer Explorer Deluxe Woodland, but it is not evidence that a pad is in the box, that the body alone has a temperature rating, or that every aftermarket pad will fit.

The M138 still has an attached 30D No-See-Um net, a side #10 YKK zipper with two double sliders, and a 130-by-59-inch lower-fabric measurement. Its listing calls it an asymmetrical body with a structural ridgeline. The net, pad, rainfly and suspension solve different jobs: an integrated screen does not provide rain cover or under-body warmth. For a trip, confirm which exact layers are actually packed and follow the maker's pad-placement instructions rather than assuming the product name means an all-season kit.

Woodland package and suspension details

The page describes a 143-by-120-inch Hex fly, 72-inch-by-2-inch Tree Hugger webbing and ten-foot polyester-core support ropes. It lists the same large-fly and longer-strap approach as the M136 Explorer Deluxe Woodland, so a shopper can compare the shared overhead cover and webbing while distinguishing the Jungle Explorer's lower layer. Hennessy's stated webbing length is not a guarantee that a particular site offers a legal, sound tree pair; inspect the actual trunks, spacing and permitted hanging method.

The maker lists a #10 side zipper, a 300-pound hammock-body limit and a seven-foot height limit. It separately describes the ropes as 1,800-pound-test. That test figure does not extend the hammock's 300-pound body limit or rate the straps, connectors, trees, stand, or entire load path. Read the current lashing and setup instructions, inspect the complete hang, and use a conservative fall height.

Read the published weight line cautiously

The Woodland product page states a packed weight of four pounds and, on the same line, 1,596 grams, before 8.2 ounces of webbing. Four pounds is about 1,814 grams, so the two displayed weight units conflict materially. The product's Shopify record has a shipping-weight field, but that is not a documented measurement of the packed hammock and is not used to resolve the discrepancy. Treat the packed weight as uncertain and ask the manufacturer which current figure applies to M138 if pack weight is decisive.

Hennessy lists the bottom fabric as 130 by 59 inches and the packed size as 5 by 6 by 11 inches. Those dimensions clear a 10.5-foot length and 59-inch width floor but not an 11-foot or 60-inch floor. They describe the fabric body and packed bag, not sleeper comfort, minimum anchor span or the volume of a full camp kit. The pad is a separate item, and any stakes or additional equipment needed by the actual site remain a separate packing decision.

Compare with the less layered choices

The M138 is the clearest choice within this pair when a second fabric layer for the maker's designated Double Bubble pad is wanted. The Explorer Deluxe Woodland M136 retains the large Hex fly and 72-inch webbing but has a single-layer lower body. The standard-rainfly Jungle Explorer M38 shares the two-layer pad plan, yet its stock fly and 42-inch webbing differ from the Woodland package. Those are package differences, not evidence that one will feel warmer or resist weather better in all conditions.

The page says the M138 is designed for users up to seven feet and lists a 300-pound hammock-body limit. The fixed 130-by-59-inch measurement cannot determine whether a given sleeper will find the asymmetric lay comfortable. If the pad plan is not needed, a single-layer body may avoid carrying a layer intended for pad retention; if it is needed, verify the separately purchased pad and exact anchor/attachment details. There is no hands-on comparison or user comfort report in this assessment.

Before ordering the M138

Confirm the full Woodland title, SKU M138 and UPC 832667000761; verify that the offer includes the large 143-by-120-inch fly, 72-inch webbing, support ropes and attached net. Ask whether the Double Bubble Pad XL is included (the maker lists it separately), and request clarification of the conflicting packed-weight units. Check that the selected tree straps and maker-recommended rope lashing suit the actual camp, then read current setup and insulation instructions. Do not treat a hammock-body capacity as a complete-system rating.

This is a source-led assessment, not a field test or ownership review. M138's strong point is the combination of an integrated net and the maker's pad-retaining double layer with the larger fly and longer straps in the Woodland package. The added layer, separate pad and unresolved weight line are meaningful costs in complexity and pack planning. The exact package and intended insulation should be settled before purchase.
