Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Does Mantis UL include a bug net, rainfly and tree straps?
Kammok's exact included list names a removable bug net, rainfly and two Python 10 UL straps, along with the hammock suspension and six stakes. The package still needs suitable supports, and it does not include underbody insulation.
Explore this need in the finder →What weight should I use when comparing the Mantis UL kit?
Kammok lists 2 lb 4 oz as total packed weight; the separate trail-weight figures are 2 lb with the fly and 1 lb 3.2 oz without it. Use the basis that matches your packing plan and do not treat these as a body-only measurement.
Explore this need in the finder →How does the UL body change the capacity and size comparison?
Both Mantis pages list a 120-by-56-inch body, but the UL uses Levitas 20D fabric and a 300-pound body limit; the standard Mantis uses 40D fabric and lists 500 pounds. Both have a removable net and rainfly, while the UL page frames its use as backpacking. Neither figure rates the complete hang.
Explore this need in the finder →Mantis UL is Kammok's backpacking-weight version of the Mantis hammock tent, not simply the same product in a different color. The maker lists the same 120-by-56-inch hammock body and the same basic combination of removable insect net, rainfly and supplied tree straps, but changes to a 20D Levitas body and a 300-pound hammock limit. That lower load figure is a consequential difference, not a minor footnote to an “ultralight” label.
Read the weight labels before comparing
Kammok lists 2 pounds 4 ounces (1,021 g) as total packed weight, 2 pounds as trail weight with the fly and 1 pound 3.2 ounces as trail weight without it. These numbers have different stated bases. The two-pound trail figure includes the fly and associated guy-outs and Python 10 UL straps, while the body-only weight is not separately established by the page. Don't call 1 pound 3.2 ounces the ready-to-pitch package weight, or add component weights to create another estimate.
The standard Mantis page provides a useful same-maker comparison: both models have 120-by-56-inch bodies, while the standard model uses 40D GravitasX and is listed at 500 pounds; Mantis UL uses 20D Levitas and is listed at 300 pounds. Kammok describes the UL material as lighter and more breathable. Those are manufacturer claims, not a durability test. The UL choice is most defensible when the lower listed carry weight matters and the 300-pound body limit is appropriate for the actual occupant and gear.
Not a bare hammock
The exact Mantis UL page lists a hammock body with integrated structural ridgeline, removable bug net, rainfly, two Python 10 UL straps, suspension connectors, guy-outs, six stakes and a dual-compartment sack. Kammok names it for backpacking and recommends one sleeping occupant. The exact product record identifies Ember Orange / MantisUL_EMBORG; other colors in gallery imagery do not change this reviewed configuration or establish an additional current SKU.
The package therefore includes more than the hammock fabric: the net and fly can be fitted or stowed according to conditions, and straps are part of the documented package. That is useful for a buyer trying to avoid sourcing a separate basic shelter layer, but the system does not include trees, stand, site-specific anchor suitability or underbody insulation. Kammok's linked Mantis UL setup sheet calls for supports 13 to 18 feet apart and says the hammock should hang no higher than 18 inches above the ground. It also directs users to inspect the fabric and straps and to test the hang before putting full weight into it. Follow the exact current instructions; a match result is not setup approval.
Warmth is still a separate choice
A rainfly handles overhead coverage and the removable screen addresses insects. Neither keeps cold from moving below a sleeper. Kammok says side loops can secure its trail quilts as a top quilt or underquilt, but the UL package list does not include a quilt or pad. Choose insulation for the actual forecast and sleeping system instead of treating DWR on the hammock body as a substitute for either a fly or an underquilt.
As with the standard Mantis, the page's 120-by-56-inch body measurements help narrow a shortlist but cannot predict an individual's comfort or required hang span. Kammok compares the body width with its Roo Double, which is wider; that supports a factual width comparison, not a promise that the UL feels cramped or comfortable for a particular person. The source page's “one person recommended” sleep listing is the appropriate basis for the sleeping use discussed here.
What the package count does and does not say
The linked two-page setup PDF is the same file served from the Mantis and Mantis UL pages. Its parts diagram and checklist describe the system, but loop counts in that sheet do not resolve the standard Mantis page's separate disagreement about six versus eight interior loops. The Mantis UL page itself gives no interior-loop count. This review leaves that count out of matching and fit claims; if a specific organizer or insulation attachment depends on the loop quantity, confirm it with the exact item and current manufacturer documentation.
Product photography is useful for recognizing the orange UL body and the tent-like arrangement, but cannot confirm the seller's supplied edition, the contents of a used or incomplete offer, weight or weather protection. Verify that the exact listing is Mantis UL rather than standard Mantis, check its package and current instructions, and confirm the 300-pound hammock-body figure against the full hang's separate components and supports. This is a research-based reading of manufacturer sources, not a hands-on or independent strength, weather or comfort test.
